Classic Lasagna

Somerville Gay Meet

Savor the hearty ground beef, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella that are layered in classic lasagna. They are nestled between soft pasta sheets and tangy tomato sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 29 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 15 ounce container ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

Warm the oven up to 190 degrees C 375 degrees F

Bring a big pot of water with a little salt to a boil

After the water boils, cook the lasagna noodles for 8 to 10 minutes

Rinse with cold water after draining

In a big pan, cook and stir the ground beef until it turns brown

Put in the onion and garlic, and cook them until the onion turns clear

Add basil, salt, pepper, sugar, tomato sauce, and tomato paste

Stir to mix

Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring every now and then

Put the ricotta cheese, egg, the rest of the basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl

In the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread out 1 cup of meat sauce

Place three noodles lengthwise on top of the meat sauce

Cover with a third of the ricotta cheese mix

Add 1/3 of the Parmesan cheese and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top

Add more layers, and then sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top

Cover with foil

To keep the foil from sticking, either spray it with cooking spray or make sure it doesnt touch the cheese

Put in a hot oven and bake for 25 minutes

Take off the foil and bake for another 25 minutes

Allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving
