Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground bison
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup Wisconsin cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup Cabernet Sauvignon wine
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat
The onions should be added and sauted until they start to turn caramelized, which should take about 10 to 15 minutes
Add the Cabernet Sauvignon wine and keep cooking for another 10 minutes or until the onions are soft and the wine has dried out
Add pepper and salt to taste
Pat the ground bison into four burgers while the onions are cooking
Add salt and pepper to both sides
Warm up your grill or pan on the stove by setting it on medium-high heat
The bison burgers should be grilled or fried for four to five minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they are done the way you like them
Cover each burger patty with a lot of Wisconsin cheddar cheese and cook for one more minute
This will melt the cheese
You can grill or toast the hamburger buns until they are lightly browned
Put a bison patty with melted cheddar cheese on the bottom half of each bun to make the burgers
Put a lot of Cabernet onions on top, and then put the other half of the bun on top of that
Enjoy while hot
